NBDB Gets 24 Applications for Book-Writing Grants under the “Filipino Authors’ Trust Fund” |
|
The National Book Development Board (NBDB), a government agency mandated to promote book readership and the development of the local book industry, reports that a total of 24 authors have submitted their applications for book writing grants under the “Filipino Authors’ Trust Fund.” Out of the total, 11 fall under the “Novel” category while 8 aspiring authors submitted their partial manuscripts on the “Environment and Biodiversity” genre. Also, four writers submitted entries under the “Health and Wellness” category while one sent a collection of poems. The deadline for submission of entries was on August 15.

BOC issues new guidelines for the duty and tax free importation of books |
|
The Bureau of Customs recently issued Customs Memorandum
Order No. 25-2011 or the Guidelines for the Duty and Tax Free Importation of
Books. The said memorandum contains guidelines on the coverage and operational
provisions of the duty and tax free importation of books under Section 105 of
the Tariff and Customs Code of the Philippines for uniformity in the treatment of book importations.
Under the said guidelines, an importer/applicant must apply with the Revenue Office, Department of Finance (DOF) for the duty free importation of books/materials stating the legal basis for his request for exemption and appending the pertinent certification/s issued by the concerned agency/office.
For importations under the Florence Agreement, applicants must secure a certification from the UNESCO Office in the Philippines, attesting that his importation/s are among those included in the Annexes A to E of the Florence Agreement.
For importation of books or raw materials to be used in publishing, the importer must attach to his application for duty tax exemption his registration with the NBDB.
Book importation by non-stock / non-profit orgnanizations must come with a certification from the Department of Education or the Commission on Higher Education.
Importations of books/materials otherwise not faling under any of the above-cited instances and without the DOF endorsement shall be levied the corresponding rate of duty provided under Executive Order No. 885 series of 2010.

servants with a knack for illustration
and graphic design to join the Philippine Civil Service Anniversary Digital
Book Cover Design contest.
Book
cover designs should reflect the concept “lingkod bayani ang bawat kawani” and be
submitted in digital form (JPEG format) to

the CSC for its various official publications and promotional materials as
additional incentive to winners.
Three winners will be chosen, the Grand Prize winner will receive P10,000.00,
