Nominations for the 31st National Book Awards Is Now Open |

The National Book Development Board (NBDB) and Manila Critics Circle announce that the nominations for the 31st National Book Awards (NBA) is finally open.
Nominations for the Literary division shall include entries on Fiction, Non-Fiction Prose, Anthology, Literary Criticism/Literary History, Poetry, and Graphic Literature categories, while nominations for the Non-Literary division shall include Art, Professions, Social Sciences, Leisure, and Science categories. And for this year, we will be accepting entries for the E-books category under the Non-Literary division.
Please click "Read more" to view the full nomination/selection criteria for the 31st National Book Awards. Deadline of submissions are up until 30 April 2012. Books mailed from outside Manila postmarked 30 April 2012 will be accepted.

The NBDB is pleased to announce the following grant awardees of this year’s National Book Development Trust Fund in the amount of Two Hundred Thousand Pesos (P200,000.00) each: Kasaysayan at Vulnerabilidad: Ang Kabihasnan at Lipunang Pilipino sa Harap ng Pananalanta ng Balang 1569-1949 by Ma. Florina Y. Orillos-Juan for Environment and Biodiversity Category; Traditional Medicine in Colonial Philippines, 16th to the 19th Centuries by Ma. Mercedes G. Planta for Health and Wellness Category; and The Siege of Fort Pillar by Antonio R. Enriquez for The Novel Category.

The NBDB Commits to Excellence and Ethical Practices |
|
In a special board meeting held on February 18, 2012, the National Book Development Board resolved to amend its Vision and Mission statements to focus on an aspect of book development that requires equal attention: the promotion of excellence and ethical practices within the book publishing industry.
The call to adhere to ethical business practices is not only timely, but necessary, as the public is so inundated with news about graft and corrupt practices that it is in danger of becoming inured. This should not be the case, especially when it comes to books.

On July 2012, the National Book Development Board (NBDB) and the Philippine Board on Books for the Young (PBBY) will present the 2nd National Children’s Book Award, giving honor to the 10 best books for children and young adults published during the years 2010 and 2011.

Two Pulitzer Prize-Winning Writers Topbill 2nd Manila International Literary Festival |

Organized by the National Book Development Board (NBDB) in celebration of Philippine
Book Development Month, the 2nd Manila International Literary Festival
featured two
Pulitzer Prize winners, namely; Edward Jones (The Known World, 2004) and Junot Diaz (The Brief Wonderful Life of Oscar Wao, 2008). Aside from the two writers, the Literary
Festival also attracted several noted international publishers like Ravi Mirchadandani of
Atlantic Books-UK, Rachel Kahan of G.P. Putnam & Sons-New York, Priya Doraswamy and
Jayapriya Vasudevan of Jacaranda Press-India, and fictional writer teacher Holly Thomson
of Yokohama City University.
The three-day LitFest, themed “The Great Philippine Book Café,” featured more than 30
literary workshops conducted by over 70 speakers with topics ranging from “How to Get the
Young to Read” to “How to be a Bestseller” to “In Search of the Next Great Philippine
Novel.” This year’s Lit Fest was held at the Ayala Museum from November 16 to 18.
